PASTEL WORLD 2022 – at International Association of Pastel Society’s (IAPS) Convention in Albuquerque. This June, Karen Horne was thrilled to have an artwork on display into this highly competitive show of international pastel artists. Pastel World coincides with the biennial IAPS convention, where this round over 700 artists working in the medium of pastel converged from all over the globe for fellowship, an exhibition, workshops, demonstrations and a materials fair.

Karen was thrilled and complimented that her piece “Moon Shadow” caught the attention in a couple of the walk throughs of the exhibition given by pastel luminaries. Richard McKinley, IAPS President, spoke about qualities in the piece in his walk through:

“This is a beautiful design, use of space. It would have been so easy to place the cat more classically, but that TENSION that is created …playing with that space!”

Ellen Eagle, artist, also argued in her portrait-focused tour, that “Moon Shadow” was a strong portrait. She felt the active mark-making in the piece created a compelling body language, and feline personality.

Karen was delighted that this new exploration of cats in light and shadow has received affirmation. Moon Shadow is now back and available at the gallery. See this and more of her recent work on her CATS AND DOGS series page.
