Jamie Wayman knows water. Since childhood she has spent an average of four hours a day in the pool. She attended the University of Utah on a swimming scholarship, before going on to pursue her degree in art. Now swimming at the master’s level, she has great experience with water’s visual magic. This gives her paintings on the subject a unique authenticity. As she notes:
“Water is a subtle and awesome environment of abstracted reality. It is also loaded with spiritual, physical and personal symbolism. The work began as a study of the physical properties of water: distortion, abstraction and reflection. These properties became an important tool as I gradually turned the study toward the emotive and personal responses of water.”
Jamie Wayman completed her BA in painting and drawing at the University of Utah. She won number of honors during her studies, including the distinguish Ethel Armstrong Rolapp award. HORNE Fine Art is pleased to feature the range of her work, which includes not only large and small paintings but also etchings and woodcuts.
Wayman continues to receive local and national attention. In October 2003, Salt Lake Magazine selected her an important emerging Utah artist, and interviewed her for the article, “Ten Artists to Watch.” In September 2004, Southwest Art named Wayman as one of the country’s important emerging artists in “21 under 31.” The Salt Lake Visitor’s Bureau spotlighted a work from Wayman’s latest wraparound series in its Spring/Summer 2007 Visitor’s Guide.
Wayman works have been widely collected in Utah as well as nationally, and are featured in private collections from California to Florida.
“Her paintings evoke a distinct serenity…her attention to water, light, and skin tones make each piece strongly emotive and tranquil.”
